Is it really possible to fix an iPhone screen yourself? We will take a look at how much technical knowledge you need to carry out an iPhone screen repair.
It goes without saying that the most common iPhone problem users experience is a broken screen. Since iPhones are delicate piece of technology, and the fact the touchscreen is made of glass, it is likely that if dropped, the iPhone screen will break. So what would you do? Search on online for an upgraded screen.
The replacement screens sold online include the necessary parts and tools needed for an effective screen replacement. However, how good are they?
From extensive experience in repairing and replacing iPhone screens, I can say that the tools sold on are virtually useless. The equipment which can be needed is a Phillips screwdriver, a blade, or other wedging and scraping tool, tweezers, scissors and either double-sided tape or superglue.
The first step is to show the device off and remove the sim tray. Then with a Phillips screwdriver remove the 2 screws in the bottom of the iPhone. This enables you to remove the back cover. Unscrew the battery connector that's holding the battery in position and remove the connector and battery. The battery is glued in so you will need to pull hard.
You will need to remove 5 more screws on the top of the iPhone holding the shield in place. Remove the shield very carefully, as you can find two hinges - The shield loops into and under these hinges. This itself is difficult, as you will need to be careful never to damage the inner ribbons and components while removing this.
There are many screws and ribbons that need to remove. The iPhone camera itself needs taking out completely along with the speaker and microphone.
It is clearly easy to plug in the brand new iPhone screen, as it is just a ribbon you connect to the motherboard. However, it is very difficult to put all the parts back together in their correct places, and more importantly, put the screens in the right places because they are all different sizes.
At this stage, it is much more likely than not, that a person without much technical knowledge has either damaged a motherboard ribbon or is completely lost on how best to put back the iPhone.
An important thing to do is don't replace an iPhone screen yourself, and take it to a well respected, trustworthy iPhone repair shop.
