How To Save A Wet Cell Phone

Accidents happen. Even when you are very careful, accidents can still occur when you least expect them. It is not any different when using a cell phone. When you are using a phone, you might accidentally drop it, thump it, or sit on it. Or worse, you will get it soaked and ruin the whole device. The good news is that there are actually ways to save a wet cell phone and here are the things that you need to do in case your phone accidentally goes swimming.

Actions to Take

Get it from the water quickly. The first thing you need to do is, of course, get the cell phone from the water. Yes, you might be in shock when your expensive iPhone or Blackberry hits the water, but snap from it and get it out as quickly as you can! If a liquid has been spilled on it, rub it dry with a clean cloth to remove the water before it seeps into the mechanism of the device.

Turn off the phone right away. Just as important as getting it from the water is turning off the phone. Be sure that you don't wait for a few seconds or minutes before you turn off the phone. Remember, water can do more damage if the phone's power is on.

Determine what kind of liquid the phone has been in. Is it salt or fresh water? If it has been drenched or soaked in salt water, take the phone apart to remove the SIM card, battery and screen. Rinse the remaining parts of the phone with fresh water to remove salt residue that can instantly corrode the parts of the phone. Then, grab a towel and dry the phone immediately after rinsing. Place the phone along with a towel to absorb excess water. Dab the different phone parts with a towel to allow them to dry more quickly.

Another good alternative should be to place the parts of the mobile phone into a bowl then fill it rice grains, which will absorb the moisture from the cell phone parts. Repeat the process using a different bowl of dry rice after every hour. Once the phone is completely dried, you can assemble it back together and try turning it on. If it still won't work the right way, turn it off again and take it immediately to a professional repair center.

Preventive Measures
Since accidents can happen when you least expect them, it is good that you do these things now. First, secure all the data in your phone, most importantly, your contacts. Then have a backup of all important text messages and other important details stored in your device. This way, if your phone ever gets wet (or stolen or lost), all the stuff that you need on your phone it is still with you.

Another essential reminder is to avoid eating or drinking while using your phone. You can be as careful as you can, but you still might not be able to avoid spillage or leakage that can come near this device. Moreover, protect your phone with a durable and water-resistant cell phone case. Cell phone cases, as well as other cool cell phone accessories, are widely available in many online stores.
